40-year old Makonese promises ‘more fire’ on his return

Former Zimbabwe international Zvenyika Makonese has promised to return with a bang as he hopes to rejoin Shabanie Mine.

Zvenyika who turns 41 years in July arrived in Zvishavane on Friday morning from his base in South Africa.

In an interview with the club’s media, the defender said he wants to prove wrong those that refuse to believe his ability.

“I’m now around, I was delayed in South Africa due to some family commitments, but now I’m in my town Zvishavane where I hope to go through the drills with my young boys ahead of the season kickoff.

“I’m back, and I want to prove the doubting Thomases wrong, just wait and see,” Makonese declared.

The former Warriors centre-back tried to join the Chinda Boys last year, but the move failed. He was one of the outstanding players for the Zvishavane side in 2016, helping the team to win promotion back into the country’s elite league.

Meanwhile, Shabanie Mine are rebuilding after they lost several players which include captain Farai Mupasiri who joined rivals FC Platinum, William Mapfumo, Bruno Mtigo, Tafadzwa Chimoyo and goalkeeper Alois Tangwara.
