CAF, AU team up to fight corruption

The CAF team was led by General Secretary, Amy Fahmy whilst Begoto Miarom, chairperson of the Advisory Board on Corruption headed his team.

The meeting aimed to define the contours of collaboration between the two bodies in order to guarantee a greater visibility of the actions envisaged by the Board towards the fight against corruption, one of the main pillars of CAF President Ahmad’s dogma.

The Board’s action is structured around a theme adopted by the summit of African Union Heads of State – “Overcoming corruption, a viable option for the transformation of Africa”.

CAF competitions and the others events to be established by the two parties will therefore offer appropriate opportunities for awareness creation and advocacy. Also, the two bodies agreed on a roadmap and a timeline of activities to be carried out in the short and medium term.

CAF and the African Union signed a Memorandum of Understanding on 14 July 2012 and in this context various actions have been carried out. It includes organisation of a match to raise funds at the height of the famine in the Horn of Africa region and various campaigns at CAF competitions on themes such as prevention of young girls against early marriages, access to education and youth employment, which are goals of the Agenda 2063 launched in 2013, a strategic framework for the socio-economic transformation of the continent over the next 50 years.
