Depleted Dynamos stun CAPS as Bosso, Chicken Inn match is called off

A depleted Dynamos side stunned a full strength CAPS United in a ZNA Charity Shield semi-final match played at National Sports Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Despite poor preparations, Dembare won 1-0, fielding juniors after most of their senior players refused to play in protest over outstanding salaries and winning bonuses from last season.

The match had a cagey start as both teams failed to create meaningful chances.

Captain Hardlife Zvirekwi made the first effort on target in the 11th minute, but Dynamos keeper Blessing Mwandimutsira saved the shot. The Green Machine had another opportunity on the midway point of the first half which was cleared by Marshall Machazane.

CAPS coach Lloyd Chitembwe made his first change on the half-hour mark when Oscar Machapa came in for Chrispen Machisi.

Mwandimutsira was again called to action on the stroke of half-time when he saved Zvirekwi’s freekick from the edge of the box.

Makepekepe resumed the second half creating some good chances, but it was Dynamos’ Kudzanayi Dhemere who broke the deadlock on the hour mark when he struck home from inside the box.

The goal came as a wake-up call for CAPS as they quickly regrouped in search for an equaliser.

John Zhuwawo had the best opportunities coming in his way. However, he failed to convert one. His 93rd-minute effort went an inch wide.

Brian Muzondiwa who made his debut appearance for CAPS United, also wasted a glorious chance late in the game when he failed to connect a brilliant cross from his skipper.

Dynamos managed to hold on until the last whistle, and they will play either Highlanders or Chicken Inn in the final.

Meanwhile, Chicken Inn were leading 1-0 when the match was called off due to heavy rains that made the pitch water-logged.

Clemence Matawu had scored an early goal in the 6th minute. The Gamecocks were also reduced to ten men after Divine Lunga received a straight red card in the 29th minute.

The encounter will be continued tomorrow morning at Luveve Stadium from the 55th minute.
