Highlanders – Chicken Inn ZNA Charities Shield’s Semi final to be continued at Luveve Stadium

Highlanders and Chicken Inn’s ZNA Charities Shield Semi final encounter will be continued today at Luveve Stadium after it was abandoned midway through the second half due to adverse weather conditions which made the pitch unplayable on Sunday, the organisers have said.

Players found it almost impossible to control the ball at Babourfields stadium, with huge puddles all over the surface making it unplayable and causing dangerous skidding which could have led to serious injuries.

Referee Philani Ncube deliberated with the players for several minutes before leading them into the dressing rooms for the organisers to make a decision whether to carry on.

With incessant rain pouring, they had no choice but to announce that the match will have to be rearranged.

Chicken Inn who were already down to 10 men led through a 4th minute strike by veteran midfielder Clement Matawu. Defender Devine Lunga was shown a red card following a crude tackle on Godfrey Makaruse.

Spokesperson for the tournament organisers Lieutenant-Colonel Fabion Chitungo told the Chronicle that the game would be completed today weather permitting.

“The game was stopped in the 55th minute as the officials had problems with the light. After consultations, we have decided that the game will continue tomorrow (today) at Luveve Stadium at 10AM. We have chosen Luveve because it has a better drainage than Barbourfields,” said Chitungo.

Entry into the stadium will be free.

In the other Semi final encounter Dynamos beat Caps United 1-0 at a magch played at the National Sporta Stadium.
