FC Platinum defiant

FC Platinum are not throwing in the towel yet despite trailing Angolan side Primeiro Agosto 3-0 ahead of the second leg of the Champions League preliminary tie at Mandava Stadium this afternoon.

The goal-shy Zimbabwean champions need to score at least four goals without a reply to guarantee their passage into the next round of the competition.

Assistant coach Patrick Mandizha is however optimistic that lessons learnt from the first match will help them get the better of their opponents.

“When we went to Angola we had studied some video footage of how they play, but unfortunately they changed coaches, and the new coach came up with new tactics. But now we have seen how they play and we have planned accordingly,” said Mandizha.

“We have also rectified the mistakes that saw us concede those goals. We are very much confident that we will overturn the result although it’s not going to be easy.”

Platinum will be missing winger Rahman Kutsanzira who is nursing an injury. The Angolan side who said they are wary of a possible backlash from Platinum, are taking this match seriously having sent in an advance team, a week before the match.
