S.A based Zim players round-up

Kaitano Tembo took charge of his first SuperSport United match on Saturday following his recent appointment as caretaker coach after Eric Tinkler resigned.

United faced Maritzburg, and they played to a goalless draw. Evans Rusike was in the first eleven of the Pretoria-based side, against his former team and was booked on the 53rd minute. Rusike was replaced by fellow countryman Kingston Nkhatha with seven minutes left on the clock.

Another Zimbabwean at SuperSport, Onismor Bhasera also featured over the weekend and played the whole ninety minutes.

Elsewhere, Ronald Pfumbidzai scored his second goal since joining Bloemfontein Celtic in August last year.

The former CAPS United fullback netted the winner on Sunday when his team beat Ajax Cape Town 1-0. He has become a regular at Celtic and has so far made 18 appearances this season.

On the other hand, Ajax’s Tendai Ndoro was introduced to the game in the second half while midfielder Gerald Takwara was not part of the squad.

Also on target was Polokwane City forward Walter Musona.

The 22-year-old came on as a substitute, scoring City’s first goal against Golden Arrows on the hour mark. His team-mate goalkeeper Goerge Chigova conceded two goals.

Dominic Chungwa who has failed to break into the starting eleven of late played the last 20 minutes of the game.

Arrows’ Knox Mutizwa came on in the second-half, and five minutes later, he had a chance, but his header went an inch wide. Kuda Mahachi did not play due to injury together with Thomas Chideu.

Also missing out on weekend’s action with injury was Cape Town City striker Matthew Rusike and Mamelodi Sundown’s Khama Billiat. Billiat suffered a knock in the previous round and was left out of the squad that won against AmaZulu on Friday.

Ovidy Kararu featured for Usuthu, but Butholezwe Ncube was not available as he was serving his red-card suspension.

Marshall Munetsi and Teenage Hadebe failed to make their Soweto Derby appearances on Saturday.

Orlando Pirates’ Munetsi was an unused sub in the 3-1 victory over Kaizer Chiefs. Defender Hadebe was out of the Chiefs squad after he failed to pass a late fitness test ahead of the match.

Hadebe had injured his ankle and missed the other previous game.

Team-mate and midfield maestro Willard Katsande returned to the first XI after missing the last round following the passing on of his mother. Katsande, however, was not at his best and made a defensive blunder which resulted in Pirates’ first goal.

Talent Chawapiwa of Baroka FC had a decent game against Bidvest Wits but was subbed off in the 88th minute.
