Zvirekwi hopeful of a return to football

Hardlife Zvirekwi is hopeful of being back on the playing field despite suffering a career threatening injury the defender suffered in a car crash less than a week ago.

Zvirekwi had his left hand amputated from the wrist after his hand was crushed when his vehicle veered off the road just a week away from the start of the season.

The Caps United defender was expected to be ruled out of action and has already been replaced by Oscar Machapa on his right back position.

He has however remained optimistic he will bounce back despite the setback.

Zvirekwi spoke for the first time in an interview with the Herald while he was receiving a visit from Sports Minister Kazembe Kazembe.

“Obviously, these been painful moments, but still we have to praise God that I am still around and I will be back soon,” said Zvirekwi.

“I want to thank everybody for the support – the minister (Kazembe), our club president (Jere) and the whole nation. They have been so supportive, they have been with me in their prayers, so I thank everybody for showing love. It’s been of great comfort to me and my family as well,” he said.
