Mudimu shocked by Warriors call-up

Cefn Druids midfielder Alec Mudimu says he couldn’t believe after he was included in the Warriors squad for a 4-Nation Tournament to be held in Zambia from 21-24 March.

The Welsh-based 22-year old earned his first national team call-up together with Cliff Moyo, Adam Chicksen, Marshall Munetsi and Butholezwe Ncube.

“I was shell-shocked for 10 seconds. I couldn’t even breathe, it was such a surprise,” Mudimu said of his selection in an interview with BBC Sport.

“It’s not every day that you get a national team manager calling you saying that you’ve been selected for national duty.

“My sister and my grandmother were in tears.

“It was an emotional moment, and it brings such joy to me knowing I’ve brought such pride to my family back home.”

Harare-born Mudimu who left Zimbabwe for the UK when he was six-years-old also revealed that he is familiar with some local players and coaches.

“I know some coaches and a few players down there.

“I think we’ve got a squad more than capable of winning the tournament, but we’ve got to be at the races straight away,” he added.

Meanwhile, Zimbabwe face hosts Zambia in the semi-final of a four-nation tournament in Ndola on 21 March before a second game – a final or third-place play-off – against South Africa or Angola on 24 March.
