S.A based Zim players round-up

It was a quiet weekend for most South African based players when the ABSA Premiership action returned after a break due to the Nedbank Cup games.

Polokwane City’s Walter Musona and George Chigova were in the first XI in their 2-1 loss to Maritzburg United. Chigova made a superb save on the quarter hour mark when he denied a Maritzburg player in a one-on-one situation. The 27-year-old keeper was at his best once again five minutes later, making a fantastic close-range stop.

Musona had a chance in the 31st minute, but his curled free-kick went inches wide of the post. He was substituted in the 82nd minute. Team-mate Dominic Chunga came on as a late substitute in the 89th and had nothing to show.

Willard Katsande and Teenage Hadebe started for Kaizer Chiefs in a goalless draw against AmaZulu.

Usuthu’s Ovidy Karuru, Butholezwe Ncube and goalkeeper Energy Murambadoro also featured in the tie. Karuru came close to scoring against his former team when his shot went wide in the 56th minute. Murambadoro also pulled some good saves especially in the second half. Ncube received a yellow card, his second since returning from a red card suspension two weeks ago.

Knox Mutizwa was an unused sub in Arrows’ 1-2 loss to Orlando Pirates. Kuda Mahachi and Thomas Chideu were not part of the squad. Pirates midfielder Marshall Munetsi was in the starting line-up and played the whole ninety minutes.

Bloemfontein Celtic fullback Ronaldo Pfumbidzayi featured in 1-0 win over Platinum Stars.
