Two ZIFA board members quit

Two ZIFA Board members – Piraishe Mabhena and Felton Kamambo – have quit the association claiming they want to prepare for the next elections.

The move, somehow, is meant to trigger some changes in the organisation as it requires the elections to be held within two months.

According to the ZIFA constitution, Mabhena and Kamambo’s resignation will allow the Secretary-General to take over the reigns while arranging for an elective congress to be held in short time. The other post was already vacant following the passing on of Edzai Kasinauyo last year.

The constitution says: “If more than 50% of the positions should become vacant, the general secretary shall convene an extraordinary congress within two months in order to elect a replacement for the remaining term of mandate under the supervision of the electoral committee according to Zifa electoral code.”

After yesterday’s developments, it means Philip Chiyangwa and his executive’s term expired.

Meanwhile, the Congress has been scheduled for this year and ZIFA is awaiting a roadmap from FIFA to conduct the elections.
