Brilliant Liverpool stun Manchester City; Barcelona in command against Roma

Liverpool will take a commanding lead into the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie against Manchester City thanks to a 3-0 win at Anfield this evening.

The Reds blew away their opponents in the first half, netting three times in the space of 19 minutes to take complete control of the all-English affair.
semifinal in a decade.

On another European night that will go down in the club’s storied lore, Liverpool reduced the best team in England to a rattled wreck as Mohamed Salah — with his 38th goal of the season — Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Sadio Mane all scored in front of The Kop.

The Reds then held firm under incessant second-half pressure to stop City’s attacking juggernaut from getting an away goal that would have changed the complexion of the quarterfinal matchup.

In the other quarterfinal, Barcelona took a big step towards the semi-finals of the Champions League courtesy of a 4-1 win over Roma in the first leg at Camp Nou.

Own goals from Daniele De Rossi and Kostas Manolas sent Barcelona on their way, before Gerard Pique scored a third for the home side just before the hour.

Roma managed to score an away goal in the 80th minute through Edin Dzeko, but Luis Suarez netted a fourth for Barcelona in the closing moments to leave the Italian side with a mountain to climb in the second leg next week.
