Tembo to field strongest team in Confed Cup tie

SuperSport United caretaker coach Kaitano Tembo says he will field his strongest team for their CAF Confederation Cup play-off match against Gor Mahia on Sunday.

United, who beat Angolan side Petro de Luanda in the previous round, are playing for a place in the group stages and Tembo is prepared to put up a strong team despite the fact that they have Absa Premiership clash against Orlando Pirates on Wednesday.

“We’ve got about 18 registered players for CAF. So the bulk of players who played [against Polokwane City] are still going to take part in Kenya, so it’s up to us to manage them and also make sure they are fresh for Sunday’s game,” Tembo told KickOff, a South African football website.

“But we will take the strongest available team for us because we can never try to select a weaker team. No one wants to play [against] a weakened team.”

It’s been a difficult period for the Pretoria-based, who were beaten 1-0 by Polokwane City in the league on Wednesday. They are currently sitting in third place from the bottom with 27 points.
