Relief for Mighty Warriors as Kwese TV gets on board

Econet Wireless through its Kwese TV announced yesterday that it has taken over the sponsorship of the Mighty Warriors’ participation in the African Cup of Nations qualifiers.

This is the first time in more than decade Econet to get involved in local football.

According to The Herald, Kwese TV Zimbabwe Country Head Dorothy Zimuto said her company wanted to promote the interests of the Mighty Warriors.

“After learning about what the Mighty Warriors went through and as a woman and Head of Kwese TV in Zimbabwe, I decided to adopt the Mighty Warriors so that they are paid as much money as their male counterparts,” said Zimuto.

“We are going on the ground to get more details on what the Mighty Warriors were promised and all their expectations and then we will release the funds.”

The Mighty Warriors staged a two-day sit-in at ZIFA Village after they received only $5 for their back-to-back AWCON Qualifier tie against Namibia. They are also owed allowances from last year.

Meanwhile, they will face Zambia in the second round of the qualifiers.
