Bonne targets more goals before season end

Macauley Bonne has set his target for the last games of the season after scoring his 20th goal last weekend.

The 22-year-old Layton Orient striker became the youngest player ever in his club history to reach that mark in a single campaign.

Speaking to the National League media, Bonne said he wants to end his season with 25 goals. He is four goals behind leading scorers Andy Cook and Danny Rowe.

“I’ve scored 20 goals now, and I would love to sign off with 25. I back myself, there’s not much football left but that would be great on a personal level,” he said.

“If I get that extra five, you don’t know – I may still catch those two!

“I set a 20-goal target in the summer. It was a big ask because last season I was a bench boy at Colchester, so to score so many is beyond what I could have hoped for really.

“Now I want to end the season by scoring as many as I can so I’m in the right frame of mind for August,” he added.
