Marcos Alonso banned for three games

Marcos Alonso has been banned for three matches for for violent conduct against Southampton striker Shane Long.

The Chelsea defender will begin his suspension by missing tonight’s Premier League clash with Burnley.

The Spain international star raked his studs down the back of the Saints striker’s calf during the first-half of the Blues’ 3-2 win at St Mary’s last Saturday.

But referee Mike Dean did not even book Alonso.

The FA disciplinary committee reviewed the footage, and they have charged the 27-year-old Spaniard retrospectively.

He is now set to miss the match against Burnley, this weekend’s big FA Cup semi-final against Southampton and the league game against Swansea.
