Slimani banned for violent conduct

Islam Slimani’s Newcastle season is over after he was banned for three matches following a violent conduct charge.

The Algeria striker accepted the charge but argued the suspension was excessive, however, this was rejected by an Independent Regulatory Commission.

Slimani, who is currently on loan from Leicester, was involved in an off-the-ball incident where he kicked out at West Brom defender Craig Dawson during Saturday’s 1-0 Premier League defeat at St James’ Park.

The ban means the 29-year-old will miss the final three games of his loan spell, and may have played his last game for Newcastle unless they make his move permanent.

An FA statement said: “Islam Slimani will miss Newcastle United’s next three matches after he was charged with violent conduct.

“He accepted the charge but argued the suspension was excessive. This was rejected by an independent regulatory commission.

“The forward was involved in an off-the-ball incident during Saturday’s game against West Bromwich Albion.”

Slimani joined Leicester from Sporting Lisbon for £29m in August 2016 but was loaned out to Rafa Benitez’s side in January?
