Not going to get carried away, says Ngezi Platinum coach

Ngezi Platinum coach Tonderai Ndiraya just needs to rewind 12 months to know how quickly a high-flying Premier Soccer League side can come crashing down.

The Platinum side from Ngezi occupy top spot on the ladder and have a three point lead over the second-placed FC Platinum going into their matchday 12.

They were convincing 2-1 winners over Caps United on Sunday .

They have already accrued more points (27) than in all of last season and are the league’s highest scorers, having embraced the attacking philosophy of veteran coach Tonderai Ndiraya.

With the season halfway point looming, a maiden Championship title spot for the first time in their brief three years looks increasingly likely.

Last season Ngezi were top again at the corresponding stage, wobbled along the season to finish third after a spate of poor results towards the end.

Lauded for their attacking style, Ngezi have shown the past weeks they can win even when playing well below their best.

Coach Ndiraya has refused to get carried away but instead say they will continue taking in one day at a time.
“We’ve got a 24-hour rule; when we play and we win, we celebrate for 24 hours. We will not be distracted from our focus, we’ve played 11 games and we still have 69 points to play for. It’s still a long journey. We will not fool ourselves and say the victory against Caps United will hand us the title. We need to stay focused, start thinking of our next match against Bulawayo City, who have a new coach, and that is going to be a tricky assignment,” said Ndiraya.
