Injury worries in Warriors squad

The Warriors are expected to start the camp next week, and there are some injury worries in the squad.

Coach Sunday Chidzambwa named his provisional selection for COSAFA Cup on Monday which is dominated by foreign-based players.

According to The Chronicle, national team manager Wellington Mpandare revealed that captain Knowledge Musona who returned to action over the weekend after a long lay-off, will be further assessed to see if he is fit to be part of the squad.

Another key player is defender Teenage Hadebe who missed the final games of the ABSA Premiership season with an ankle injury. Khama Billiat who has been in and out of action at Mamelodi Sundowns in the just-ended campaign completes the list.

Besides the injury issues, other challenges that are likely to affect the camp include the issuance of passports to those born in the diaspora and some of the players having matches after the camp day.

“We are racing against time to have the matter (of passports) sorted because we have to submit our 20-member list in five days’ time,” said Mpandare.

The Warriors will start camp on May 24 until their departure for Polokwane, Limpopo province, for the tournament. Zimbabwe gets the ball rolling on June 2 against the winner of Group B comprising Angola, Botswana, Mauritius and Malawi.
