Report: Chitiyo unlikely to return this season

CAPS United midfielder Ronald “Rooney” Chitiyo is reportedly going to miss the rest of the season due to complications over an injury sustained in an accident in February.

The 25-year-old injured his right knee after he was hit by a car while walking in Epworth.

According to The Herald, team doctor Nicholas Munyonga said Chitiyo is set to undergo surgery on the knee which will need six to nine months to heal.

“The injury to Ronald Chitiyo was initially expected to heal in six weeks’ time, but we have since realised that it’s is more complicated than was initially thought,” said Munyonga.

“Upon successful operation of the knee, the player will need between six and nine months to recover.

“He has since stopped training with the rest of the squad as he now awaits the club to sort out the modalities for him to get operated.”

The midfielder returned to the Harare Giants in January after cancelling his contract with Tunisian giants Club Sfaxian.
