Zambia coach to consider two foreign-based players in his final COSAFA squad

Newly appointed Zambia national team caretaker coach Beston Chambeshi has hinted that he will only have two foreign-based players in his final squad for the COSAFA Cup.

Chambeshi who on Thursday took over from Wedson Nyirenda on interim basis, told COSAFA.com that he will drop other stars and left with striker Fashion Sakala of Spartak Moscow and Polokwane City midfielder Salulani Phiri.

“We are looking at calling up Salulani Phiri. I have a meeting with him on Thursday so we will see,” Chambeshi said.

“Emmanuel Banda is out with an injury but will look at Fashion (Sakala). Justin Shonga and Augustine Mulenga are not in our plans.”

Both Salulani and Sakala featured prominently for Chipolopolo during the Four-Nations Cup held in March.

Zambia will kickoff their 2018 COSAFA Cup campaign on June 2 with a quarterfinal date against Namibia at Old Peter Mokaba Stadium.
