Zidane eyes ‘beautiful’ third CL win

Zinedine Zidane says guiding Real Madrid to victory over Liverpool on Saturday to record a historic third successive Champions League title would be “beautiful”.

The Frenchman helped Real to become the first side since the competition’s format changed in 1992 to win successive titles and a win over Liverpool in Kiev would make Zidane the only manager – in either European Cup or Champions League history – to win three titles in a row, but the 45-year-old sought to play down his success.

According to SkySports, when asked what beating Liverpool would mean to him, Zidane said: “If you look at it this way, all I can say is this is beautiful.

“This is my passion. I like to compete and behind all of that is a lot of hard work, not only on my part but on the part of my players.

“If you like to compete and you’re willing to work hard you can achieve what we’re doing. For me this is completely normal.”

Real Madrid have a special relationship with the Champions League – having won the competition a record 12 times.
