Botswana coach relishes Warriors challenge

Botswana coach David Bright says he knows the challenge that lies ahead of his team when they face COSAFA Cup defending champions Zimbabwe in the quarter finals of this years’ edition on Sunday at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium at 17h30.

Botswana qualified for the quarter-finals after a 6-0 victory over Mauritius on Friday and that secured top spot in Group B.

Bright admits that it is going to be a different challenge as anything can happen in the knockout stages and it’s going to be a tough game as Zimbabwe have brought their full squad with experienced players who are based outside their domestic league.

Bright adds they embarrassed Zimbabwe the last time they meet when Zebras defeated the Warriors 1-0 during Zimbabwe’s Independence Day celebrations in April and surely they will be coming for revenge.

Jwaneng Galaxy utility player Tebogo Sosome has been called up to the Zebras squad as a cover in the defence as Thato Kebue will be serving suspension after receiving yellow cards against Angola and Malawi respectively.

Zebras coach Bright says he is also happy to play strong opponents like Zimbabwe as it will be an opportunity to build and gauge his young players ahead of the Africa Nations Cup qualifiers that resume in September.

“I am very positive that the boys will rise to the occasion and secure a place in the semifinals,” Bright said.

Botswana speedy winger Kabelo Seakanyeng, who has been impressive during the group stages and scored three goals, says it’s a motivation to face big name players and they will go all out to give their best and prove their worth.

“I know it is not going to be easy but we will fight, I am going to double my efforts and continue to help their team and use the opportunity to market myself as it’s my dream to play outside Botswana,” Seakanyeng said.

The winner between Botswana and Zimbabwe will meet Lesotho in the semifinals after they defeated Swaziland 1-0 on Saturday afternoon.
