World Cup 2018: Iceland hold Argentina

The smallest nation at the 2018 FIFA World Cup Iceland stood firm and held Argentina to a 1-1 draw in an exciting Group D match.

Messi missed a penalty that could have easily won them the match as the superstar who missed a glut of chances saw his effort saved.

Argentina took the lead through Sergio Aguero who fired a blistering shot from just inside the box.

Alfred Finnbogason scored the equalizer immediately to draw both teams level.

In the second half Argentina dominated play commanding a +75% ball possession but could not breach the Iceland defence.

Messi who completed the match with 11 attempts (the most he’s ever attempted in a World Cup game) at goal missed a penalty that could have earned his side the win but the frustrating day ended with nothing for the superstar.
