Zvirekwi hands CAPS United victory as FC Platinum, Ngezi pick up maximum points

Hardlife Zvirekwi’s solitary strike handed CAPS United maximum points in a Match-day 21 encounter against Black Rhinos at Rufaro Stadium on Saturday.

The 31-year-old had a stellar performance and netted his first goal of the season goal in the second minute, tapping in Brian Muzondiwa’s cross.

CAPS retained more possession in the first period with John Zhuwawu receiving a fair share of chances but failed to convert one. His 38th minute overhead effort went wide before Zvirekwi threaded a through ball which he sent off target.

Rhinos became more offensive towards the hour, but the introduction of Makepekepe forward, Michell Katsvairo saw them drawing back to avoid counter attacks.

Katsvairo who was making his debut made some good touches, setting up Zhuwawo who kept on wasting opportunities.

The game ended 1-0 as the Green Machine moved to 35 points on the forth position.

In Bulawayo, FC Platinum continued their dominance over Bulawayo City, beating them 1-0 in a match played at Barbourfields.

Pure Platinum Play needed a late Rodwell Chinyengetere’s strike to claim their first victory in the second half of the campaign. The goal came in the 81st minute after a cagey affair between the two side.

The win sees FC Platinum maintaining their two-point gap on top with Ngezi Platinum who beat Nichrut 3-2 coming in on the second position with 46 points.

Madamburo grabbed the lead in the 13th minute through Marlon Mushonga before Shepherd Sithole levelled matters ten minutes later. Walter Mukanga could have put his name on the scoresheet just after the half-hour mark, but a brilliant stop by the keeper denied him a goal.

Nonetheless, Nichrut went in front a few moments from the restart courtesy of Farai Vimisayi’s superb long-range strike. Donald Teguru equalised in the 77th minute, and Godknows Murwira got the winner from a distance three minutes to full-time.

Chapungu and Bulawayo Chiefs played to a 1-1 draw at Ascot Stadium. Allan Tavarwisa was on target for the air force side while Stanely Ngala scored for Chiefs.

At Nyamhunga, ZPC Kariba beat Triangle United 3-1.

David Temwanjira hit a brace to add to Munyaradzi Kunyarimwe’s early effort while Lameck Nhamo got the Sugar Boys’ consolation from the spot.

Results:

CAPS United 1-0 Black Rhinos
Bulawayo City 0-1 FC Platinum
Ngezi Platinum 3-2 Nichrut
Chapungu 1-1 Bulawayo Chiefs
ZPC Kariba 3-1 Triangle United
