Mapeza relieved!

FC Platinum head coach Norman Mapeza was left a relieved man following his charges’ 1-0 away victory over relegation-threatened Bulawayo City at Barbourfields Stadium on Saturday.

Reigning Soccer Star of the Year Rodwell Chinyengetere scored the all-important goal for the miners in the 81st minute from Rahman Kutsanzira’s smart feed.

The win saw Pure Platinum Play pick up their first full set of points in the second half of the season.

“It was a good game. We were are coming from a defeat and two draws, so we certainly needed to win this match and get three points,” said Mapeza.

His opposite number Bekithemba “Super” Ndlovu, who was in charge in his first game as City’s interim head coach believes his side will bounce back and survive relegation.

“We are disappointed, but the boys gave a good fight. We will need to continue fighting to survive relegation. With the experienced players that we brought during the second transfer window, I think we will be able to remain in the topflight league,” said Ndlovu.

Before the closure of the mid-season transfer window, Bulawayo City roped in veteran goalkeeper Munyaradzi Diya, midfielder Chris Samakwere, striker Ozias Zibande and defender Benson Phiri who made their debut on Saturday.
