Herentals are amateurs: Chitembwe

Caps United coach Lloyd Chitembwe has labelled Herentals as amateurs who easily get over excited at the prospects of playing against ‘big’ teams after the two sides had scuffles before Saturday’s goalless draw at Rufaro stadium.

“This occasion was too big for them and they got too excited,” said Chitembwe.

“It’s really unfortunate that we have people who want to bring amateurish antics into professional football. They should take responsibility and not blame Caps United for this. They should leave us out of this.”

Kick-off was delayed by twenty minutes after clashes at the gates with the hosts blocking the entrance of the Caps United team bus into the stadium.

The Students argued that it was Chitembwe who caused the chaos when he blocked the entrance of their team bus by parking his car in front of the main gate. Herentals players had to disembark from their bus outside the stadium and walked into the dressing rooms. After that, they disputed that the away team should do the same and disembark from their bus outside the stadium, a move Caps refused, leading to the delay.

When the match started, Makepekepe failed to get into the groove and could have fallen behind by at least two goals going into the breather had Herentals been precise in front of goals. The Green Machine failed to produce the sparkle they had in their previous match in which they played well against Black Rhinos.
