Lloyd Chitembwe has queried Sunday Chidzambwa’s selection criteria for the national team as he felt his goalkeeper Prosper Chigumba deserved a call-up.
Chapungu’s Talbert Shumba and Donovan Bernard of Ngezi Platinum are the two local goalkeepers called in the 28-man squad to prepare for the 2019 African Cup of Nations qualifier against Congo next month.
“It baffles my mind why he is not part for the Warriors set up. For me performance wise, he has been one of the consistent goalkeepers, and he should have been in the team, but such is football. I just told him to continue working hard and, when an opportunity comes, he must utilise it, ” said Chitembwe.
For the first time in a long while the traditional big three, Dynamos, Highlanders and Caps United failed to provide at least a player to the national team. However, Warriors coach Chidzambwa was quoted in the press defending his selection saying he can’t please everyone when picking some of the players into his squad.
