Leeroy Mavunga to travel to Portugal, withdraws from Warriors squad

Warriors and Yadah winger Leeroy Mavunga will travel to Portugal for trials with Primera Liga side Clube Desportivo Feirense.

The youngster will spend a month at the club and has since withdrawn from the national team squad to face Congo Brazzaville in the Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifier early next month.

According to NewsDay, Warriors manager Wellington Mupandare said Mavunga is set to leave the country today.

“He should leave tomorrow (today) for trials. I understand it will be month-long and it would not be possible to invite him in-between so he is out of the match against Congo Brazzaville,” Mupandare said.

The manager also revealed that they have already made a replacement, calling in United States-based 30-year-old Lucky Mkosana, who plays for Penn FC in the second-tier division.

Meanwhile, other players that have been included, who had been initially omitted are Ronald Pfumbidzai as a direct replacement to Costa Nhamoinesu, Danny Phiri to replace Marvelous Nakamba, Liberty Chakoroma and Knox Mutizwa.
