Benza revels in debut goal glory

Innocent Benza wrote his own piece of history, becoming the oldest player to score in the Premiership.

Benza,46, scored a beauty in Herentals’ one all draw against Chapungu at Rufaro Stadium yesterday.

The strike was Benza’s first goal, earning him a record after setting another one at the beginning of the season when he became the oldest player to play in the premiership.

“I was anticipating that I was going to score and kept on pushing for that goal. My son Tinotenda told me that after he scored in the midweek fixture at Bulawayo City, it was now my turn. Age is nothing but just a number. Where there is passion there is a way,” said Benza.

“I am impressed with what I have done as an individual, getting to score, but what is most important is teamwork. We badly needed the points, but that was what we could get because that’s what football is all about, ”

Benza’s son was on target during the midweek win away to Bulawayo City.
