Here are the five takeaways from the 2018 Chibuku Super Cup, first round action played over the weekend.

Mbongeni’s first Bosso goal
Highlanders fullback Mbongeni Ndlovu scored his first goal for the club on Sunday, getting the equaliser in a 2-1 victory over Yadah.

Giants march on
The country’s three biggest clubs, Dynamos, Highlanders and Caps United all progressed to the next round of the Chibuku Super Cup. Dembare edged out Bulawayo Chiefs while Bosso beat Yadah. Makepekepe won after a penalty shootout against ZPC Kariba.

Platinum sides crush out
FC Platinum and Ngezi Platinum crushed out of the Chibuku Super Cup on Saturday. The two teams are currently the leading pack in league with Pure Platinum Play on top while Madamburo follow in second.

Four games decided by penalties
Half of the eight first-round encounters played over the weekend were decided by penalties. The matches between Caps United and ZPC Kariba, Ngezi vs Herentals, FC Platinum vs Chapungu and Triangle vs Shabanie all ended in stalemate in regulation time.

History repeats itself at Mandava
History repeated itself at Mandava Stadium on Saturday when Chapungu knocked FC Platinum out of the Chibuku Super Cup for the second successive time in the same stage.
