Harare City eliminate Highlanders as CAPS United march on

Harare City knocked Highlanders out of the 2018 Chibuku Super Cup in a match played at Rufaro Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Wilfred Muvirimi and William Manondo were on target in the first half as the defending champions cruised to a 2-0 victory.

Bosso could have opened the scoring in the 10th minute, but Adrian Silla was denied from the spot by Maxwell Nyamupanedengu after Nigel Makumbe was fouled inside the box by Learnmore Muyambo.

The penalty save gave City an upliftment as they started to attack, retaining more possession The Sunshine Boys, however, found the breakthrough on the 22nd-minute mark courtesy of Muvirimi’s strike. Manondo followed five minutes later and doubled the lead with a header off an Gareth Madhaike’s corner kick.

The game went to the break with the hosts carrying an advantage.

A lively start by Highlanders saw Brian Banda’s long-range strike going straight to hit the woodwork. They kept the pressure in the next moments, but sadly, they couldn’t get a goal.

Harare City remained disciplined for the remainder of the game as they reached the semifinals for a record fifth successive time.

At Ascot Stadium, CAPS United advanced to the next round after beating Chapungu 3-4 on penalties.
