Dynamos, Triangle reach Chibuku Super Cup semis

Goalkeeper Simbarashe Chinani was the hero of the day when he saved two penalties as Dynamos reached the semifinals of the Chibuku Super Cup, beating Herentals 5-4 after shootouts.

The Glamour Boys join Triangle United, Harare City and CAPS United in last four stage of the tournament.

The Students controlled proceedings in the opening minutes, forcing three corner kicks before the 10th-minute mark. Dembare only found their feet on the quarter hour when Kudzanayi Dhemere headed wide from an unmissable position.

The hosts slowly picked up momentum in the next moments and they broke the deadlock on minute 25 through Quality Kangadzi following a brilliant build up.

Herentals, however, responded swiftly and they got the equaliser five minutes later through Blessing Majarira who converted from the spot after he was hacked down inside the box by Jimmy Tigere.

The teams went to the break tied at 1-1.

The introduction of Valentine Kadonzvo and Gift Saunyama for Dhemere and Marvelous Mukumba respectively early in the second period gave Dynamos some mobility in their attack.

Herentals only regained force after the hour when an unmarked Brighton Majarira blew away a glorious opportunity by sending his effort over.

A cagey affair soon followed with both teams failing to create meaningful chances and the game ended 1-1.

Blessing Moyo, Kuda Kumwala, James Marufu, Phakamani Dube and Marshal Machazane all converted their kicks for Dynamos while Chinani denied Archmore Majarira nad Kamhungu.

In the Low Veld, Triangle United thrashed Nichrut 5-1 in a match played at Gibbo Stadium.

Russel Madamombe scored a brace to add to the efforts of Collins Dhuwa, Ralph Kawonder and Delic Murimba. Nichrut got the consolation courtesy of Washington Pakamisa’s strike.

Results:
Dynamos 1-1 Herentals (Dynamos won 5-4 on penalties.)
Triangle United 5-1 Nichrut
