The last time DRC and Zimbabwe clashed was in 2009 and today the two teams will play against each other in Kinshasa.
The encounter is a Group G fixture of the 2019 Afcon Qualifiers. Both sides are yet to concede a defeat in the campaign, and it’s the Warriors in the lead due to a superior goal difference.
Ahead of today’s match, there is no clear dominance from either team in the tie with the Congolese winning one game while Zimbabwe grabbed the victory in another encounter played in 2000.
The other game played in 2009, ended in a 1-1 draw at the African Nations Championship (CHAN) in Cote d’Ivoire. Phillip Marufu was on target for the Southern African country.
The Warriors’ triumph happened at the National Sports Stadium during the 2002 AFCON qualifiers with Luke Petros hitting a brace to add to Peter Ndlovu’s effort as it finished 3-2. The reverse fixture went to the Leopards, winning 2-1 in the following year in Kinshasa. Benjani Mwaruwari scored the consolation.
