Highlanders, FC Platinum share spoils in season finale

Highlanders and FC Platinum played to a goalless draw in the last round of the 2018 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League season played at Barbourfields on Wednesday.

Pure Platinum Play who have already been officially crowned the title winners finish the campaign with 78 points, their best ever tally in the top flight season while the Bulawayo giants have 51, sitting in the 5th position.

The visitors enjoyed more possession in the opening minutes but never created any meaningful chance in the first period. Bosso had a few counter-attacks and the 38th-minute move by Denzel Khumalo ended with Tinashe Makanda’s volley going straight to the hands of the keeper.

The second half saw Highlanders regrouping as they searched for an opener but Brian Banda’s long-range striker in the 53rd minute was parried away by keeper Petros Mhari.

Zvishavane-side only came close on goal inside the last quarter hour of the game when Never Tigere beat his marker into the box but fired his effort over the bar.

The game ended with no goals scored as FC Platinum finished the season on a six-match unbeaten run where they didn’t concede.

They are back in action next Wednesday when they play against CNaPS Sport of Madagascar in 2018/18 CAF Champions League.
