CAPS United’s record still stands

Castle Lager Premier Soccer League champions FC Platinum managed to reach 78 points for the first time, setting a new club record during their 2018 campaign.

The tally, however, failed to surpass a mark reached by CAPS United in 2004 under the guidance of Charles Mhlauri when they posted 79 points, the highest by any team in a single season in the PSL era.

The Harare giants posted a total of 25 wins and four draws. They only conceded defeat once when they lost 3-4 to Highlanders during the Round 16 of the season.

For Pure Platinum Play, they needed a win in their last match against Bosso on Wednesday to break set a new record but played to a goalless draw which left them with a point short.

Even if the Zvishavane side had managed to break the long-standing record, Makepekepe could still be proud of themselves because they achieved the fate inside thirty games while FC Platinum had to play four more matches after the league was expanded last year.

Nonetheless, the Norman Mapeza-coached team has also seen themselves posting their biggest goal difference in the league (+38) since their promotion to the top-flight football in 2011.
