Kamambo ignores Electoral Committee decision, cast doubt on taking part in Zifa polls

Zifa aspiring president Felton Kamambo has ignored the Electoral Committee’s decision to allow him to contest in the coming elections saying the body deliberately breached Zifa Statutes by overruling Appeals Committee’s verdict.

The Appeals Committee is the supreme electoral arm of the FA and last week they had upheld Kamambo’s disqualification and that of aspiring vice president Gift Banda.

“I’m puzzled by the way your esteemed Committee continue to blatantly breach Zifa Constitution and the Electoral Code particularly Article 6 (1) b which stipulates that one of your key duties is to ‘strictly’ enforce the statutes, directives and regulations of FIFA, CAF and Zifa,” said Kamambo in a letter to chairman Vusi Vuma.

“I am left wondering how on earth your Committee gets the power to review a decision of the Upper Committee that is the Appeals Committee.”

Kamambo who has since approached FIFA on the issue says he is waiting for guidance from world football body and the Sports and Recreation Commission since he no longer has confidence in the authority.

“I have taken the issue up with the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) and FIFA for redress since I had exhausted all the internal processes.

“I am currently waiting for responses of the two entities since you no longer have locus standi to review my matter.

“Until I get guidance from SRC and FIFA your letter shall remain of no use or force… I have no confidence that you will be able to deliver a credible and acceptable election,” he added.

Another candidate, Barry Manandi, also withdrew from participating in the elections citing irregularities in announcing the final candidates.

The polls were supposed to take place this Saturday, but the Executive Committee elections have been pushed to the 16th while the Presidential will happen on the 8th of the month.
