CLPSL Awards: Can Chinyengetere join the elite club?

The 2018 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League awards ceremony will be held on Friday, December 7, in Harare.

The Soccer Star of the Year, Coach of the year, Goalkeeper of the year and Rookie of the year will be named at the event.

FC Platinum forward Rodwell Chinyengetere has already been confirmed as the Golden Boot Award winner after finishing the season with seventeen goals. The 30-year-old is also the favourite to win the Best Player award which he bagged last season.

Chinyengetere had a great campaign was named the best player in three consecutive months from August during the 2018 season.

Should the Warriors forward take home the crown, he will become the fourth ever player to have won the award more than once since its inception in 1969. The other three stars who achieved the feat are George Shaya (1969, 1972, 1975, 1976 and 1977) Peter Ndlovu (1990 and 1991), and the late Stanley Ndunduma (1981 and 1985).

Chinyengetere’s mentor, Norman Mapeza is likely to retain the Coach of the year award after winning it last year where he became the first coach to guide a team based outside Harare and Bulawayo to a league title since 1966.

Also at the awards ceremony, FC Platinum will be unveiled as the 2018 Champions together with the Best XI.
