FC Platinum retain Castle Challenge Cup after beating Triangle United

FC Platinum successfully defended the Castle Challenge Cup after beating Triangle United 2-0 in a match played at Mandava Stadium on Sunday.

The cup is played between the league champions and the winners of the Chibuku Super Cup.

The hosts grabbed the lead through William Stima whose freekick found the back of the net after a slight touch from Gift Mbweti in the 8th minute.

Donald Dzvinyai had an opportunity ten minutes later which could have levelled terms but the strike went straight to hit the woodwork. On the other end, Marshal Mudehwe blew a glorious chance on minute 26 when came face to face with the keeper but sent his effort over.

The game went to the break with FC Platinum in the lead.

Thomas Chideu doubled the advantage a few moments in the second with a beautiful effort.

Triangle tried to pull one back but were unlucky again as Russel Madamombe’s effort hit the woodwork on the hour.

FC Platinum managed to hold on for the remainder of the game as they retained the trophy.
