We need to learn in Africa: Mapeza

FC Platinum coach Norman Mapeza pleaded for more time for his team before they are judged playing in Africa.

Mapeza was in defiant mood, shooting down questions from journalists after his team’s 1-0 win over CNaPS of Madagascar to progress to the next round of the African Champions League.

“We are just a young team, only seven years old and you guys are piling pressure on us. This is Africa, and it’s a different ball game altogether. Dynamos started participating in the champions league in 1981 and only reached the mini-league phase in 1998 . Give us the chance to gain experience,” said Mapeza.

“Our players should also learn to manage the game. With three minutes to go the players continued attacking instead of going to the corner flag and waste time. This is Africa we need to learn fast to manage the game.”

Rodwell Chinyengetere scored in the second half to give FC Platinum a 2-1 aggregate win after the first leg ended in a 1-1 draw. The Zimbabwe champions will now meet Congolese side Otoho D’oyo who beat the much fancied Primeiro Agosto of Angola.
