Munetsi sees red as Chipezeze and Chawapiwa win first silverware in S.A

Orlando Pirates’ Marshall Munetsi received a red card in the Telkom Knockout final against Baroka FC on Saturday.

The 22-year-old started in the first XI as a centre back as his team lost 3-2 on penalties after it had ended 2-2. He received his marching orders on minute 42 following a clumsy challenge on an opponent.

Pirates went on to concede a few moments later as Baroka grabbed the edge before the break courtesy of Jemondre Dickens effort. A goal early in the second half by Musa Nyatama cancelled out the advantage to force the game into extra-time.

Mduduzi Mdatsane restored the lead from the spot, eight minutes from the restart but Thembinkosi Lorch equalised five minutes from time.

The Soweto Giants’ goals in the regulation time were the first to be conceded by goalkeeper Elvis Chipezeze in the tournament who pulled some great saves during the game including a one-on-one stop in the first half to deny Lorch.

The shot-stopper had kept clean sheets in the three previous matches of the competition.

Team-mate Talent Chawapiwa also featured in the encounter, playing the entire minutes.

Meanwhile, the victory gave Chipezeze and Chawapiwa their first silverware in South Africa.
