Football legends endorse Kamambo

Football Legends have thrown their weight behind Felton Kamambo as they feel he has the credentials to ‘take’ football forward.

Kamambo goes into the ring for the Zifa presidential elections on Sunday against the incumbent Philip Chiyangwa.

The legends, led by former Warriors defender John ‘JP’ Phiri, believes Kamambo is the right man to resuscitate the football structures at the grassroots level.

“As legends, we are saddened by the fact that this is an election whereby legends were blocked from contesting,” said Phiri.

“Some are actually still afraid to come out in the open today and speak out because of fear of victimisation. So our only hope is in Kamambo winning and unifying the football family.

“We have people like Benedict Moyo who contributed a lot to our football but are being barred from contesting over flimsy allegations. We need to go back to the basics and revive those structures that produced the household names we have today.”

Kamambo was initially barred from contesting but was cleared following the intervention of the world football governing body Fifa. Gift Banda who was also barred will tussle for the vice presidency against Omega Sibanda.

Sugar Chagonda, Mlungisi Moyo, Rodrick Chamunorwa, Chamu Chiwanza, Stanley Chapeta, Philemon Machana and Brighton Malandule will fight it for the slots within the executive committee.
