FC Platinum Offside!

A football expert says FC Platinum were ignorant on the football rules pertaining to international matches after crying foul over their treatment in Congo.

The Zimbabwe champions say their hosts did not provide them with a bus to the training ground which was in a bad state.

The expert, who refused to be named, said FC Platinum were either providing a soft landing should they lose or they are totally in the dark on football rules.

“According to the rules, the hosts have a stipulated time limit in which they should assist the visitors and it’s two days before the match.

“That is the reason FC Platinum were only assisted on Friday which is two days before the match not that they had complained. The Zimbabwean media swallowed the hook and ran along with it.

“That is the reason you saw Zifa not commenting about it because they know about the rules. What they did providing transport from the airport to the hotel was spot on, but they didn’t have the obligation to take them to the stadium. The bus had done its job, it didn’t disappear.

“Remember the match is in Owando State which is not the capital Brazzaville, so in terms of feeling the match venue, they will do that a day before the match. So on this one, it’s either FC Platinum were ignorant or they just sought sympathy.

“When they played Primero Agosto here early this year, Agosto arrived in Harare with almost a week before the match and settled quietly in Harare before travelling to Zvishavane two days before the match. Even when teams from North Africa come here, they do the same, look for their own accommodation, training facility and get the stipulated assistance from the hosts on the right time,” said the source who requested anonymity.

FC Platinum will play the Congolese side on Sunday in the first leg of the first round encounter in the 2018/19 CAF Champions League season.
