Dynamos appeal Epoupa ruling

Dynamos have appealed to FIFA following a ruling which ordered them to pay ex-striker Joel Christian Epoupa US$16 755.

The world football body ruled that the Harare Giants should pay the Cameroonian the money within 30 days for alleged breach of contract, but no action has been taken with less than two weeks to the deadline.

According to the Herald, the club’s secretary-general Webster Marechera is hoping that Fifa will review their judgment as the team don’t have the money.

“Dynamos is not spared by the cash crisis in the country either. We will run around like a club if our appeal is thrown out. But, it’s not going to be easy though we want to follow the Fifa’s orders,” he said.

Marechera also revealed that a certain Premiership club was actually paying Epoupa during the three months the Epoupa was refusing to play in protest over the outstanding dues. The striker was not also withdrawing his salary from his account.

“It is unfortunate that a corporate-owned team took advantage of our situation to sway Epoupa’s attention. They promised him heaven, and he couldn’t resist. I think it’s a bad practice. See where we are now. Epoupa went for three months without withdrawing his salary, and we are reliably informed that he was receiving money from that particular team which is not good.

“After seeing that things had turned bad, that particular team then decided to let him go as they feared our backlash,” Marechera added.

The 25-year-old now plays in Botswana Premier League.

Should the stand and Dynamos fail to deal with the matter, there is a possibility of having points docked which could leave them relegated from the Premier Soccer League.
