No formal enquiry on Bonne, says Leyton Orient coach

Leyton Orient head coach Justin Edinburgh says they are yet to receive a formal enquiry on Macauley Bonne.

The Zimbabwe international has been linked with several top clubs including five English Premier League sides. Leicester City are said to be leading the chase for the striker with Newcastle, Crystal Palace, Fulham and Huddersfield also interested ahead of the January transfer window.

Championship clubs Norwich, Stoke, Nottingham Forest, QPR and Sheffield United all have Bonne on their radar too.

But according to the East London Advertiser, a UK news website, Edinburgh described the reports as just speculation.

“It is speculation. We have heard nothing as a club, and that’s an honest answer,” he said.

“Do I expect interest? Possibly and am I surprised? No, because we are top of the league and we have some fantastic young players who will catch people’s eye.

“We are looking to strengthen rather than let people go, and I don’t see us as a selling club.

“I am not silly enough to sit here and say he won’t go and no one will because at the end of the day every player has a price no matter what player it is at whatever level, but I would expect that no one will leave the club.”

The 23-year-old has scored 16 league goals already for the National League leaders this season. He netted 25 goals last season after joining Orient from Colchester.
