Billiat leaps to defence of former coach

Khama Billiat has leapt into the defence of former Kaizer Chiefs coach Giovanni Solinas.

Solinas parted ways with Amakhosi a fortnight ago and has since been replaced by German coach Ernst Middendorp, who has registered two victories in as many matches.

In an interview with Kick-Off.com, Billiat says players should take the blame for how things turned out with Solinas.

“To be honest, we did not want to be in the situation we were in [as] players, coaches, the club and supporters. No one was happy, even us, we did not want to lose, but things were not working,” the former Mamelodi Sundowns player said.

“But more the blame comes to the players because we are the ones that play, so I don’t know what we were not getting right. We can’t blame the coach at the end of the day.”

Under the guidance of Solinas, Chiefs were unable to find their rhythm and management decided to sever ties with the former Free State Stars mentor before it was too late.
