Karuru targets “revenge” on Mutizwa and Phiri in derby match

AmaZulu midfielder Ovidy Karuru is looking forward to helping his team win the Durban Derby on Saturday so that he can “revenge” what his fellow countrymen at Golden Arrows did during a Warriors camp, at the time Usuthu was struggling.

The 29-year-old together with Butholezwe Ncube will be up against Danny Phiri and Knox Mutizwa of Arrows, and the quartet has been part of the national team squad in the qualifiers for the Africa Cup of Nations.

In an interview with IOL, Karuru jokingly revealed that the Arrows pair once laughed at them when AmaZulu was sitting at the bottom of the log and a win this weekend will give him an opportunity to revenge.

“We talk about such matches when we meet as players. The game will be decided in 90 minutes at the end of the day. We will be happy to win so that we can laugh at them because when we were in the national team they were teasing us about sitting at the bottom of the table,” he said.

“They were saying we are number last on the log and next season we will be playing in the National First Division. They were making those kinds of jokes. I believe in the team. We have a good group of players here at AmaZulu.”

AmaZulu currently sit in the 11th position on the Absa Premiership table while Arrows are a place above them. Kick-off is at 3 pm CAT.
