Zifa engages Govt on debt

Zifa will engage the government on the US$8 million debt as the new leadership led by Felton Kamambo begins efforts to restore sanity within the association.

The decision was made at an Executive Meeting held yesterday.

Kamambo, who recently unseated Philip Chiyangwa, will head a delegation consisting of his deputy, Gift Banda and PSL chairman Farai Jere that will present a report on the debt issue to the Ministry of Sports.

The new executive has also started meeting the creditors with the hope of coming up with a payment plan.

The debt has increased with extra $2 million since the former administration assumed the office in 2015. A financial report released last week revealed that the liabilities of the association stood at $5 944 656 in 2016 and by December 31, 2017, it was at $8 123 391.

Some of the creditors include ex-employees, Conduit Holdings, a company linked to board member for finance Philemon Machana, Cuthbert Dube and former Mighty Warriors coach Shadreck Mlauzi.
