Chidzambwa to remain as Warriors coach

New Zifa president Felton Kamambo says he will retain Sunday Chidzambwa as the Warriors coach together with the rest of the technical team.

Chidzambwa was appointed the substantive coach last year on a one-year contract which expires on the 31st of this month.

The gaffer and Kamambo held their first meeting yesterday since the latter’s appointment as the association’s boss.

“I would like to assure coach Sunday Chidzambwa and the rest of the technical team that I will retain them in their current positions. Their positions are safe. I was elected to develop football for the better,” said Kamambo, according to The Herald.

“I have worked with the coach in the past and I know very well what he is capable of. I am encouraging you and the technical team to work hard and ensure that the Warriors qualify for the 2019 AFCON finals.”

Chidzambwa managed to defend the Cosafa Cup in June and guided the national team in the 2019 Afcon qualifiers where they are on the verge of booking a place at the finals. The Warriors face Congo Brazzaville in March and need at least a draw in the encounter to qualify.
