Guinea accepts to host 2025 Afcon

Guinea has accepted to host the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations instead of the 2023 edition.

The west African country was awarded the rights in 2014 together with Cameroon which was supposed to host the tournament this year but were stripped of hosting the event because of severe delays in building stadiums and security concerns.

“I am delighted with this change in the organisation of the calendar that will see the Nations Cup take place in Guinea in 2025 and I am proud that the president of Guinea, Alpha Conde, has himself accepted,” Caf president Ahmad Ahmad said, according to AFP.

The move means Cameroon will now stage the 2021 tournament while Ivory Coast gets the 2023 edition.

The 2019 hosts will be announced tomorrow with Egypt and South Africa the only two countries in the race.
