Egypt to host 2019 Afcon finals

Egypt has been chosen to replace Cameroon as hosts of the 2019 Afcon finals.

Cameroon were stripped of hosting the event due to delays in building stadiums and security concerns.

The North Africans beat South Africa to get the hosting rights for the expanded tournament. The decision was made during a Caf Executive Meeting held in Dakar, Senegal on Tuesday.

Egypt last had hosted the tournament in 2006 when they went on to win the trophy. This year’s edition will be the fourth time to have the competition played on their home soil.

This tournament will be held from June 15 to July 13 with twenty-four teams set to take part.
